Steve Billirakis Wins WSOP Event #3 €5,300 Pot Limit Omaha

Teddy SheringhamTeddy Sheringham was not the quickest of centre forwards in world football, but he was one of the smartest. Commentators used to say that on his day Teddy Sheringham was streets ahead of his opponents in his mind. He was not blessed with any sort of pace and yet he always seemed to be ahead of his defender when the ball came into the box. The space just seemed to open up for him and beckon him in. Similarly when Teddy had the ball at his feet, he found space for others as effortlessly as the space found him.

In poker the great players follow the same philosophy as Sheringham. They don't spend their time and energy thrashing about with unnecessary bluffs and highly aggressive counter-strategies. Instead they take their time, are patient and wait for the openings to present themselves to them. These are methods that are useful across all types of poker, such as Texas Holdem and Omaha Poker.

In poker these openings can take many shapes and forms and here are some of them. Your opponent has been having a string of bad beats and you can tell that he is visibly tilted - this is an opening. Your opponent has folded to three consecutive three-bets and looks slightly irritated - this is an opening. The player on your right limps and then folds every time someone raises him - this too is an opening.

The Teddy Sheringham way of how to play poker is basically getting attuned to the game and going with the flow. Keep your energy for thinking through tough situations not for wildly trying to force spots that want to remain closed.
